Advice for little girls dressing up as Princesses at Disney World breakfast.?

Hello, we're having breakfast at the Akershus Royal Banquet hall when we go to Disney World next month. My two year old LOVES Snow White. My question is this: I don't really want to buy her an expensive costume that's made of pretty but scratchy material. Do you think she'd be fine in a pretty yellow skirt with a fancy blue top and her hair done up in a red bow? Or would she look out of place with a ton of other little girls in the $50+ costumes? My six year old wants to go as Mulan, so I'm hoping to find a pretty pink dress and making her other pieces (they have some fancy inexpensive Oriental-inspired material at the fabric store that would be perfect). My husband says we'd better go with the Disney outfits, but I sort of think homey made up is more fun. What do you all think? Thanks so much!

We have eaten at this restaurant, and although one or two girls were dressed in costumes, most were not. If your girls are pleased with what you put together for them, great job. I always see the little girls in costumes, and they simply look miserable. They are fussed at for messing them up, they scratch and shift. You are on the right track, it is more important that they are comfortable for the days activities.

I ran out of room, but really wanted to thank everyone because it's just what I needed to show my husband the girls can have a great time "making" their outfits and not be out of place one bit. Plus be comfy for the rest of the day too! Report It

I did check disneyshopping and others, but no (cheap) Snow White in our size. Thanks so much for the tip though ladies. :) Report It

she is two years old. ask yourself who would be out of place her or you. go with the homemade look.

Disney costumes are so expensive!

Go the homemade way.

They will be more interested in the "real princesses" that day.

If you want them to be in costume try eBay.

You can find nice second hand costumes on there for a decent price.

Go with the homemade. It's a good lesson for your child, as well -- that one does not have to "conform" to the commercial or mob mentality and that one can have fun being creative. Let her help you put it all together. You can add a wide white fabric collar for "authenticity". Perhaps you could buy an inexpensive fake bird (they usually go for a dollar or less) at a craft store to put on her shoulder or finger. Snow White in the movie was often surrounded by small birds.

Go the Homemade route. It will be more comfortable for her and less expense for you. We have done the homemade look when we have been there and, maybe it was just me, but I didn't feel out of place.

Have fun and spend that money on something else the entire family can enjoy.

Check the costume racks at Target, Walmart, KMart now...Halloween costumes...including princess ones, are 75% off. That's what my sister in law did last year, and was able to get all the princess outfits for next to nothing. Otherwise, go with the homemade.

You can go either way! But, as far as the Disney costumes being too expensive, I always buy my girls their princess costumes on Disneyshopping.com and get them for $7.99 or $9.99!!! They have great sales, especially after Halloween. Check out their website! But like I said, its up to you. Remember, don't get caught up in trying to "keep up". Just do what is best for YOUR family!

Because she is only 2 years old I would say to go with the homemade but it can't hurt to check after halloween sales or eBay!

Not everyone dresses up so I think either way you go will be fine. The homemade look would be more unique and fun to me.

So save your money for something else!
