At what age are female cats no longer able to get pregnant?

I ask this because I don't know the age of my cat. I love her to pieces, and want her to have the best possible life. I found her as a stray, took her to a vet to have her fixed, because she didn't seem to be too much older than a kitten. I was shocked to learn that she was actually pregnant. She was undernourished and skinny when we took her in. When she began to gain weight, my husband and I thought she was just putting on weight because she was healthy. At any rate, the vet listed her age as a little under a year old. This might sound silly, but I am wondering if she could possibly be older than that? She's very playful and pretty active, even almost 6 months after being fixed. She's pure black and has recently acquired a few strands of white hair on her tummy, and it makes me wonder about her age. I received wonderful answers about my previous question regarding my cat. I hope someone can help me. She's my baby. (Her name is Natasha!)

Cats can come into heat as early as four months, AND get bred and pregnant, although heats starting that early are rare. A cats first heat on average can start anywhere from 6 months to 1 year, depending on the breed and size of the cat. If your cat is pregnant at just under a year, that is about normal, and believe it or not it is very common for cats, whereas dogs should not be bred until they are at least 18 months old. If your cat is pregnant, she will be fine and there is no need to worry. They are quite capable of handling pregnancies at this age and there should be no problems. If your Vet determined her age after an examination, chances are he is pretty spot on, as more then likely it was the cat's teeth that gave away her age. Cats can also be bred up until they pass on, which is a long time! She sounds like a sweety! Take good care of her, do not over feed her, and make sure she stays somewhat active around your house. This way if she is pregnant you will ensure a successful labor and delivery. Good luck!

I love her name! To answer your question I think it may vary for cats. I knew this lady who's cat was still having kittens when the cat was 10 years old. I am happy that you got her fixed though because a cat can have two or even three litters a year. That is a lot of kittens.Just let her stay your baby. I think the Vet knew the right age. They can tell by their teeth rather than their size what age the cat is. Some cats are just small.

cats can get pregnant at any age really, depends on how fit they are and stuff.

They usually look at their teeth to estimate age. As far as the white hair goes, cats don't tend to "go grey" to the extent that dogs do. A few stray white hairs are incredibly common on a black cat. It's really rare to see a totally black cat with no white whatsoever. My solid grey cat has about a dozen white hairs on her tummy too.

I know someone else who took in a stray cat believing it was pregnant because it's belly was swollen, however, it was because she was filled with worms. Your vet was taking an educated guess on the basis of her teeth (number, how white they are, etc.). I know someone who took in a stray black with white collar and boots kitten more than 8 years ago and it is still as small as a kitten and just as playful and active as kitten. Stray kittens and cats (their mothers) are more often than not undernourished so the kittens do not receive sufficient nutrients and their growth is stunted. Congratulations on your baby!

Cute, any age. Really, any age.

Of course it is possible that she could be older. Vets can only ESTIMATE the age by looking at the teeth. So if she was out and not taken care it could have been VERY difficult to estimate the age.

If a female cat is not spayed it will continue to come into heat for as long as it lives. I knew someone who had a cat which lived to be 20 years old and for some reason was never fixed. It was still coming into heat a few months before is passed on. The vet confirmed they do not go through a change of life like human females and continue to be able to breed.
