Is there any kind of disorder that some combination of these symptons falls into?

Throughout my life, I've had varying degrees of oddities that were more or less pushed off as just that. When I was a child, I consistently ate paper regularly, and pulled my hair out to the extent of leaving large bald spots on my head. These were written off as just "oddities" for me. I keep all sorts of things for months and years that I have no need to keep, I have large stacks of unopened mail because for some reason I'm afraid to open it, I guess, and the mere thought of talking about money or my financial status/situation nearly sends me into a panic attack from what I can tell. It's infinitely frustrating, because I recognize signs of depression or other kinds of disorders, but I can't really put the pieces together, and I'm afraid to just go to a physician and lay all of those things out without looking like (for lack of a better word) a total nut-job. Any ideas?

I would advise you to take a look at Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. This really sounds like a case of it to me...

OCD is an anxiety-based disorder, and the hair pulling, and keeping or 'hoarding' as it's called these items around for so long really makes me think of it.

If you went to a psychiatrist they certainly wouldn't look at you as a " nut job". They are trained to recognize symptoms of mental illness. That's their job.

I am definitely not a psychiatrist but I think it would be in your best interest to make an appointment to be evaluated by a professional.

I agree

Insufficient informtion, it takes a whole lot of questions to make a diagnosis.

Sounds like some type of anxiety disorder. You might wanna search for a list of them on google or something.

There is also a website called WrongDiagnosis.com. You might want to try that.

But you're probably going to have to go to a doctor for that.

I am not a psychiatrist or counselor so I wouldn't even hazard a guess as to what the combination of the listed symptoms go with what disorder. I do not think you are a "nut-job". If this is really bothering you I suggest you go to a psychiatrist or counselor and find out if the things you listed are in things that need intervention by them, or if what symptoms you've expressed are just "oddities".

I would recommend that you see a psychologist to start with. Take along a friend or someone that you trust to the first appointment if you're nervous. The psychologist would then be the best one to determine after a series of consultations if you should see a psychiatrist or not.

You are describing symptoms of psychiatric disorders, but really only a mental health professional can diagnose you. You may want to look into seeing a therapist who can help you figure this out. A psychiatrist is more for prescribing meds and managing them, than making a diagnosis (although they can, of course, do that too.) Therapists tend to be much better listeners though and not immediately jump on the medication bandwagon. (Not that meds are bad, but it's good to have a real understanding of what you're dealing with before going that route.) It may be that this is not a huge deal, but if you have been experiencing things since childhood that really feel "off" to you, trust your gut instinct. Don't be afraid to ask for help. That is what therapists are there for. They are not going to look at you as a "nut-job" and they will definitely take your concerns seriously.
