I saw this classic piece of art with a woman floating in a lake or river with her wrists and ankles tied,floating on her back in a very long dress with flowing hair? any idea who the artist is or the name of the picture?it looked 17th century maybe, im not sure really.

"Ophelia" by Millais, but she's drowning herself (because of her scorning by Hamlet) and is not bound. Her hands in fact are beautifully and gracefully opened and upturned. What a GREAT painting. I think it is in the National Gallery in Washington, DC, At least that's where I saw it. Just a GREAT painting!

I love that painting! It's called Ophelia, and it's by John Everett Millais.
