Can I use brown box dye to color over caramel highlights?

I have naturally dark brown hair and had caramel peek-a-boo highlights added professionally. They are growing out and i would like to go back to just one solid color being a dark brown and was wondering if I could use box dye from a drug store to do it or will the caramel pieces turn a blueish color. Am I out of luck and have to do it professionally or will box dye work?

I am qualified hairdresser so your in luck, yes you can use the dark brown on caramel highlights but to achieve an Evan colour you must apply it to your roots first leave about 10 Min's then apply the rest of brown to mid-lengths and ends leave a further 10 minutes and comb it all through, it may fade 1 shade lighter after couple of washes!

It will work! after several washings though the lightness of the streaks may begin to emerge.
